With the delay of video games like Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 and Starfield, 2022 has been a disappointing year for many video games lovers, however, next year looks set to bring many fantastic new games, with almost every major studio having a big title release. Here are some of the most anticipated video games of 2023.
Hogwarts Legacy
With brand new gameplay footage released, Hogwarts Legacy has the potential to bring back the fandom and increase once more the merchandise sales of funko pop vinyls, Harry-Potter-themed clothes and anything else related to the Wizarding World.
Scheduled to launch in February, the open-world action RPG allows you to experience Hogwarts as it would have been in the 1800s. You can be sorted into your Hogwarts house, learn spells, visit Hogsmeade and battle trolls. Hogwarts Legacy looks set to be a surefire hit for any Harry Potter fan and gamers who want to experience the magic for themselves.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is undoubtedly one of the most hotly-anticipated sequels ever to be released. Fans consider the original game, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to be one of the best games of its generation, meaning that Tears of the Kingdom has a lot to prove! With a release date set for May 2023, clamouring fans don’t have much longer to wait to find out if this sequel will live up to their expectations.
Starfield
Another contender for the title of best game of 2023 is Starfield, a space-based role-play video game from Bethesda, the gaming studio behind Elder Scroll and Fallout series. Starfield takes place in space, with players exploring planets and taking part in epic spaceship battles. There are also rumours that Starfield may have multiplayer possibilities. With no official launch date as of yet, Starfield is expected to be out in the first half of 2023.
Final Fantasy XVI
The much-anticipated new game from Square Enix is the first Final Fantasy mainline game in years and has a much darker vibe than older Final Fantasy titles. The heavy action combat will likely bring in action game lovers as well as RPG ones. While the exact launch date hasn’t been confirmed, it’s believed that Final Fantasy 16 will release next summer.
Resident Evil 4
The Resident Evil 4 remake is another big-name game that will attract many gamers on nostalgia and curiosity alone. With the success of several Resident Evil remakes, alongside new title releases, Capcom has been able to bring back its popular classic survival-horror franchise, Resident Evil. Touted as one of the greatest games of all time, the pressure is well and truly on to get the remake of Resident Evil 4 perfect but so far what fans have seen, they’ve loved, with many eagerly awaiting its launch in March 2023.
