What Are Red Flags With Online Dating?

No matter your approach to online dating, it’s crucial to spot red flags before the relationship gets too serious. You may choose to ignore the signs because the person looks good and has a great sense of humor. However, that would only put you in a difficult situation later on.

So, for Latinos seeking love with passion and determination, don’t let your eagerness get in the way of spotting red flags. Here are six to keep an eye out for so that you don’t waste your time.

Six Red Flags To Keep an Eye Out for When Dating Online

The chances are that when someone you’re communicating with online does any of the following, they’re someone you need to steer clear of.

1. Asks for Money

There’s clearly something wrong when someone you barely know asks for money. That should make you want to reconsider pursuing a relationship with that individual.

First off, it shows that the person could be interested in you for all the wrong reasons. It doesn’t matter if you feel a deep connection towards this person; their awkward request should give you pause.

While their feelings for you could be genuine, and they just need to get out of a hole, they’re more likely trying to take advantage of your kindness. Chances are, asking you for money wasn’t a one-time thing done out of desperation; it’s the person’s modus operandi for getting into online dating.

2. Tells You They’re Trouble

If someone warns you about themselves, heed their warning. You can admire them for being honest, but that’s as far as your thoughts of them should go. Thinking you can change or save these people is also a dangerous road because, the fact is, they’re the only ones who can save themselves.

You’re busy and stressed enough as it is, so it’s best to move on and let these people be. The best you can do is hope they figure things out. Giving them the opportunity to introduce their brand of toxicity into your life is the last thing you want. They could be joking or messing with you, but you don’t have time for people who make light of such issues.

3. Says “I Love You” Within Days

These are three words you don’t want to hear only days after meeting someone online. Love at first sight scarcely applies to online dating, where the most visual you get of the other is through video call.

We’re not saying you can’t fall in love quickly; it’s just that it’s unlikely to happen under online dating circumstances. If someone tells you “I love you” without getting to know you or not having spent time with you in person, run the other way.

There’s a good chance the statement doesn’t hold much value to them, and they probably go around telling it to the rest of their prospects. People who fall in love easily fall out of it just as quickly. They’re huge red flags and are better not getting involved with.

4. The “No Picture” Rule

You’ve probably had that encounter with someone who doesn’t want to send photos of themselves. That’s a big no-no in online dating, especially since a picture is the most basic thing to go by in terms of a visual.

Chances are, this person also refuses to go on video chat or video calls. You’d think someone interested in you would also want you to see them. If someone insists that they can’t send you a picture, take them out of the running. If they can’t be honest about who they are, they’re just wasting your time.

5. Gives Vague Descriptions on Their Profile

When you put the kind of effort you do into your profile, you expect others to do the same. Putting yourself out there means being as truthful and as comprehensive as you can. After all, you don’t want others to get a false impression of you, as that could be a huge waste of time.

In the same way, you don’t want to read half-baked answers on a participant’s profile. When someone’s profile doesn’t give you a thorough glimpse of their personality, likes, dislikes, and hobbies, you don’t want to bother with that person.

Either they don’t want to put effort into creating a decent profile, or they just don’t have anything to offer. In both cases, it’s bad news for you.

6. Conversations About Their Ex

While the exes topic is not off-limits, it’s not something you discuss with someone you’re just getting to know. It gives the impression that the person is still hung up on their former flame and is probably just dating online to distract themselves. Well, one thing’s for sure; you don’t have time to be the rebound.
