Whether you are new to camping or enjoy the great outdoors before, a few issues are quite common that affect how enjoyable your trip is. Camping, whether on your own, or as part of a group can be as fun and as enjoyable as you want it to be, but if there are issues that are making it difficult to enjoy your trip you must rectify them as soon as possible to ensure your trip is fun and most of all memorable.
Uncomfortable Bedding
You cannot possibly expect to start the day feeling fresh as a daisy if you have had a terrible night’s sleep. A good night’s sleep will set you up for the day ahead so you must sleep comfortably and soundly. It can be difficult to get a restful night’s sleep when you have an uncomfortable bed, so this is one area that you will need to fix as soon as possible. A bed on the floor may be easy to put together, and quick too, but it will be lumpy and uncomfortable. So, if you want to get a good, if not perfect night’s sleep you need to look at investing in a metal fold-out bed. A bed that is raised off the ground will allow you to put down a solid mattress that will give you both stability and comfort, which is what you need to ensure you get the best quality of sleep possible.
Water Issues
When you are camping, water is essential, whether you are using water for cooking, or you are using water for brushing your teeth or having a shower, it is important that you have a constant supply of water that is clean and ready to use. If you do not have clean water that is accessible then you will find that camping is uncomfortable and not fun at all. If you are having issues with water supply or with water heating issues then these need fixing immediately. There are common camper water heater issues that you can fix yourself, and there are ones that need a specialist to look at, so first, off identify where the problem lies, and then go from there. Establishing the root cause of an issue will allow you to fix and correct issues moving forwards.
Toilet Issues
Even though you are camping you still need to have access to a sanitary and ideally portable toilet. If you rely on a campsite having toilet facilities, this could leave you sorely disappointed, and it could ruin your trip. Always take with you a portable toilet, these are compact, easy to clean, and easy to empty/dispose of after use. Investing in a portable toilet will allow you to camp happily and freely in the knowledge that you do not have to stop or find toilets regularly will also give you the extra freedom and time to go to where you want to go.
Cooking and Meal Times
Even when you are camping you still need to eat regularly and healthily. You need to ensure that you have access to cooking facilities at any time of the day, especially if you are traveling overnight, or through the night. When it comes to cooking, have portable appliances that run on gas, and even those that can be run out of your car area are always items that are worth investing in. Even if you camp at a site that has cooking facilities, having the freedom and independence to roast some marshmallows when you want to is a staple to a good camping trip.
Incorrect Equipment
Let’s face it if you are going camping in the summer and you don’t take fly or bug repellant, or similarly, you go camping in the winter and don’t take your cold-weather clothing, your trip will not be as fun or as enjoyable as it can be. Packing for the right occasion and always ensuring that you have suitable backup stocks is important. Running out of equipment, failing to have adequate provisions, or having incorrectly fitted equipment will ruin any trip you take, no matter the length.
As a camper, you need to be hands-on and you need to be ready to fix problems and issues as and when they arise. Being organized and getting to grips with as much as possible, and being highly adaptable will allow you to get the most out of any camping trip, no matter how short or long it is.
