How to Make Your Stylish Patio Stand Out

Have a backyard without much of a stylish patio? The backyard may or may not have been on the top of your priority list when you bought your home. However, just because it was not a priority then does not mean it should be neglected now.

If you do not have a patio you could easily get one built without having to spend too much money. It will raise the value of your home and make your backyard the place to be. If you already have a patio keep reading for some ideas on how to spruce it up and give it that new life it desperately needs.

Concrete, Wood, or Brick?

One option includes laying down a concrete slab for the patio base. The other option is to use wood for the patio base. Wood can easily be painted or stained to match your design preferences, or you can leave it looking all-natural.

Both options are relatively inexpensive, so choose the one that better suits your aesthetic.

A slightly more expensive option is laying bricks. Bricks are great because they come in an array of different shapes and sizes, making them an easy option to customize your space.

Laying an entire brick patio might be a bit too expensive, especially if yours is on the larger side. You could opt for a fire pit with bricks instead.

This is an easy way to create a focal point without going crazy and without blowing your budget.

Outdoor Rugs

Outdoor rugs are an inexpensive way to give your patio the stylish appeal it needs.

Different outdoor rugs can even transform your space from season to season or depending on what sort of event you’re hosting. You can easily change it up to match what’s happening around you, or you can go for an option that works all year long and for all occasions.

Unlike regular rugs, the outdoor rug option will not become faded or discolored over the years. It can even hide old patios that need a new paint job.

Pallet Furniture

An easy, but stylish addition to any patio. Simply take old pallets that you get from warehouses or box stores and create chairs, couches, and even shelves. If you do not want to DIY it on your own, you can also purchase them from a vendor, but this is more costly.

You can paint the pallets to match your backyard patio aesthetic or leave them their natural color. Also, be sure to throw in some comfy cushions for your outdoor area. Pallet furniture might be aesthetically pleasing, but it is not exactly the most comfortable thing to sit on for long periods of time. You want it to be comfy for both you and your guests.

Lights

Fairy lights are definitely not just for Christmas. Consider draping string lights from your pergola or use wooden poles to create the area to hang the lights from yourself.

Colorful lights are great for festive nights, but typically on the patio, you want to go for soft, yellow lights. This creates a mood of relaxation and gives the space the ambient light that it needs.

Plants and Vertical Garden

One way to style your patio is with plants. The other is a little more complicated, but the pay-off is great. Fences are taking on a new role in the backyard patio. They are becoming vertical gardens.

It may seem strange, but it is quite easy to do. Secure a pallet to your fence, preferably by drilling it into it. Once that is done, secure a few pots to the wooden pallet.

Some great choices to plant in these pots are ones that hang outside of them and cascade down. Examples include a string of pearls, a string of hearts, donkey tails, etc.

Vertical gardens work really well in spaces that don’t allow for plants to grow in the soil.

Backyard Dining

Backyard patios are meant to be filled with enjoyment. Take dinner on the patio and enjoy the outdoors. Eating off of your lap isn’t the most ideal. A space for dining on your patio is so important.

Larger patios can have tables that fit 4 or more while smaller patios might only be able to accommodate 2-4 people. Barrels, wooden boards, pallets, etc. can all be used to create your patio dining table. You can also find tables at antique shops or salvage yards for very little money.

Most of these projects can be done over the course of one weekend, which means you can easily transform your space in little to no time at all. Even just doing a few of these things can give your space the lift it needs. It doesn’t need to break the bank.
