Getting stuck in a rut is easy. You get up, go to work, go to the gym, come home and sleep. At the weekends you have a lie-in, do a bit of shopping and maybe go out on Saturday night. Then, on Monday you start again.
Adult life is all about routine but this doesn’t mean that you can’t shake things up a bit when you have the chance. Routine might be sensible but if you’re feeling bored, stressed and exhausted, this is a clear sign that you’ve been at it too long. So, here are a few things you might like to try to shake your life up.
Try Something New
Trying new things is one of the healthiest habits you can get into. Some of the benefits are obvious: you get to discover new things, explore different sides of your personality and be more creative with your time. But there are some other benefits too. You can use this time to overcome your fears and the skills you pick up might even help you compete on the job market.
But if you really want to do something different, don’t play it safe. Try Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or quidditch or extreme frisbee. Sign up for a creative writing class or a whiskey tasting event. Open yourself up to hobbies that might not have appealed before but could be a lot of fun. After all, an afternoon or evening trying something new is time well spent, even if you discover that the activity isn’t for you!
Change Your Look
Sure, everyone should have an OCBD in their wardrobe but if that’s all you’ve got, you’re going to get bored of your look pretty quickly. Shaking up your life is all about expressing yourself and if your wardrobe doesn’t show off your creative and fun side, you will feel dull too.
Get your hair done, buy a new outfit, choose some new shoes. Changing your look doesn’t have to be permanent, just try something different. Go for a new color, try a bold pattern. There are so many fashion choices, why limit yourself to just one?
Adjust Your Priorities
You’re busy and constantly in demand but this doesn’t mean that you should simply keep going. Stop. Think about what your priorities really are. Is this lifestyle making you happy or are you simply too exhausted to think about doing anything else?
Taking the time to work out what you want and how you are going to achieve it, shouldn’t be a one-off. You should be thinking about your priorities regularly and adjusting your life accordingly. So, if you are single and ready to mingle, you need to make time to go dating. If you want to earn more, you need to be looking at your job prospects. If you want to start a family, you need to plan ahead.
Shaking things up is the best way to change your life for the better. Do one new thing this week and see how it feels.
