Exercise is fun, and it could well bring you a lot of joy. With that said, you may be anxious to see results. You may want to get fitter, as well as being stronger and faster. Everyone has different fitness goals, too, but if you don’t feel as though you are seeing results at all, then now is the time for you to do something about that.
Your Goal is too Vague or Broad
If you feel as though you have hit a bit of a goal when it comes to your workout, but you’re not sure why, then the first thing you can do is take a closer look at your goals. Apart from not having a goal at all, a lot of people set goals that are too vague, and this can be a major issue. An example of a target that isn’t specific enough could well be that your goal is too broad. If you tell yourself that you want to become stronger, then this is great, but at the same time, you need to make sure that you can measure this. You need to be able to define what being strong means, and you also need to be able to track this goal in a way that is both smart and measurable. Does stronger mean doubling the amount that you can lift? Either way, if you can keep things like this in mind, then you will notice a big improvement.
Your Goal Isn’t Realistic for Your Fitness Level
A lot of the time, you may find that you don’t believe in yourself. This is understandable, but at the same time, you also don’t want to set a goal that is beyond your capability to achieve. If you set the bar too high, then you risk falling behind because you set unrealistic expectations. Before you go ahead, you need to make sure that you assess your current fitness level you can. If you do not have a strong fitness level or if you do not have a strong running background, then you may find that setting the goal of running a marathon in a certain amount of time is a big mistake. A realistic goal, however, would be challenging yourself to run a 5 K. If you can do this, then you will find that it is easier for you to achieve, and that from there, you can go on to set other goals that might help you a lot too. If you can do this, then you will find it easier to not only get the result you need but also make sure that you are not falling behind with your fitness goals.
You Can’t Monitor Progress
Setting attainable goals is so important, but at the same time, you have to be able to monitor your progress. If you have set a big goal for yourself, then in six months, you may find that you are nowhere near it. This is fine and sometimes it happens, but with that said, you need to make sure that you are setting little micro goals along the way so you can build up to meeting your bigger goal at a later date. Setting smaller milestones is one of the best things you can do, and it allows you to adjust your plan as you go. On top of this, you may also find that you can run smaller tests to see how you are getting on. If you want to add more capacity to your conditioning, then a good way for you to find out if you are going in the right direction would be you to choose a time to run or even row a certain distance. If you can do this, then you will notice that you can get a good heart rate and that you can also know if your work capacity has increased.
You can keep checking back every three months or so as well to find out if your goals are realistic and to get a sense of achievement. When tracking your conditioning, you can use different time domains, and you can also make sure that you are checking your strength and power along the way as well.
You’re Not Mixing it Up
Another huge mistake that a lot of people make is not mixing it up. You need to make sure that you do not block your way to getting better fitness results. Repeating the same workout routine time and time is one of the worst things you can do, as you may find that you end up getting bored and that you also end up losing out on motivation as well. If you want to stop this from being the case, then one thing you can do to try and help yourself is to mix things up. Your body needs new stimuli at the end of the day, and you also need to undertake progressive training if you want to see results. If you can make sure that you have a more developed cardiovascular system, then this will increase your body’s ability to recover faster. HIIT is a great thing to invest in here, and it also helps you build towards your goals. On top of this, it also allows you to optimise muscle growth while also helping you to build your heart health. If you need, you can also find a personal trainer at a local gym near you. When you do, you will find it easier to not only get someone to tell you where you are going wrong, but also make sure that you are not making some of the many mistakes that so many people make. Small things like this can help you to overhaul your workout routine, and they can make a big difference to you and the way that you are progressing. Don’t overlook them, as they are well worth the investment, and you may also find that you can get more invested yourself in your fitness goals as a result.
