Looking after your refrigerator – A Guide

When it comes to home appliances, the refrigerator is probably the most important, yet underrated appliance in the entire home. It’s expected to be constantly running but can last up to 20 years with the right kind of repairs and maintenance!

That’s right – a strong branded refrigerator can last you a very long time if you look after it well. In fact, let’s use LG refrigerators as an example here. You can purchase an LG refrigerator, get years of great use out of it, and then find replacement parts for your LG refrigerator instead of replacing it completely. With a few simple fixes and some spare parts, your LG refrigerator will be as good as new!

A well-looked-after refrigerator also means that you won’t have to worry about taking it to a landfill before buying a brand new expensive one and wasting more money. If you can get to know your appliance, and have access to a few spare parts, you’ll save a lot of money and effort!

Here are some short but important tips for looking after your appliance to avoid unexpected repairs, extend its life, and reduce worry for you and your family.

Small but effective ways to look after your refrigerator

Keeping your appliance in the best possible condition isn’t as difficult as you may think. In fact, it’ll take you just 30 minutes or so every 8 weeks to keep your food safe, your house happy, and your appliance working properly.

When it’s time for a clean-out, be sure to take everything out and check condiment bottles and all food items for freshness and their expiry dates. Then wipe all surfaces down using a cloth or a sponge that’s been lightly dipped in warm soapy water. Be sure to scrub off any grime you find before putting your food back into your clean refrigerator.

Next, it’s time to check that the temperature dials are where they should be and that nothing has knocked them up or down too much.

Other ways to keep your refrigerator well looked after

For a little extra help making your kitchen appliance work as well as possible, some small but effective tips like making sure the appliance has room away from the walls and cleaning out water filters regularly can make all the difference.

Try to leave at least one inch between the ventilators of the appliance and the wall and use a vacuum cleaner attachment to remove any dirt and dust from the coil of the appliance. If you can stick to these simple practices routinely, you can ensure that it runs smoothly and contributes to your home without causing you to worry about wasting money replacing it.
