6 Ways To Reduce Your Fuel Consumption

The cost of filling up your tank seems to rise all the time. While occasionally there may be a slight dip in the price of fuel, on the whole, it is pretty expensive. Depending on the type of car that you drive, you may well find that you are burning through fuel like nobody’s business.

If you’re finding that you are filling up more and more, then this can soon mount up, And, while there is nothing you can do about the cost of gas at the pump, you can change your driving habits to get better fuel economy and ultimately save yourself some extra money.

Make Sure Your Tires Are Safe

One area that may affect your fuel consumption is your Tires. If your tread is wearing low, or if they are underinflated, then this may have an effect on the amount of fuel you are using. Even a tire that is a small amount under the recommended pressure will provide sufficient drag that takes more power to counteract.

Be sure and head to Your Trusted Tire Source to get your tread checked out and your tires replaced if needed. Having the correct level of grip on the road is crucial.

Keep Up On Oil And Filter Changes

Keeping your engine in great condition by having your old and filters changed regularly will mean that it is not laboring in a way that it shouldn’t be. This will ensure that you’re using the right amount of fuel.

Use A Smoother Driving Style

If you are someone who speeds up quickly and has to slam on when you come up behind a queue of traffic, then you will be burning through more gas than you need to and not getting anywhere any quicker.

By applying a smoother driving style and reacting to upcoming traffic by slowing down earlier, you will find that you are able to continue to drive forward at a steady pace which does not burn fuel in a wasteful way.

Don’t Drive Too Fast

If you are driving too fast, then you will burn more fuel. Keeping at the speed limit is a good way of determining how fast you should be moving. Much more than this and you will find that your fuel consumption rises very quickly.

Buy Better Quality Fuel

Some fuel is not as good as others. If you are buying budget fuel, then you may find that you do not get the same quality of drive in the first place. But your vehicle will burn through the cheaper fuel much quicker.

It may sound crazy, but some cars are picky about the brand of fuel that you give them. The better the quality of the fuel, the better it will be for your fuel consumption.

If you drive a diesel, you have no choice on grades of fuel you buy. However, if you want to maximize your mileage and general engine condition, make sure your diesel exhaust fluid delivery system is up to snuff.

Switch The Engine Off If You Are Not Moving

If you are in a traffic jam, switch your engine off. Needlessly burning fuel while you are stood still will be costing you money, not to mention causing pollution.
