Why coastal living could be your ideal choice

Tempted to pack up and start afresh? The coast might be your perfect choice. Moving to the seaside isn’t just an old Victorian myth; it comes with real, modern benefits. If you’re considering a seaside relocation, here’s why coastal living could be your ideal choice.

 1. The health benefits of coastal living

Ever heard of the blue mind theory? The clue is in the name; surrounding yourself with blue spaces calms the mind and taps into a meditative state. Coastal living has profound mental and physical health benefits — with blue mind theory providing the foundations.

There’s greater motivation for exercise like walking and swimming. Health-wise, fresh sea air is preferable to smoggy urban areas, and mentally, you benefit from reduced stress, boosted relaxation, and better sleep.

 2. Stronger community ties in coastal areas

One benefit of being encouraged to head outdoors? You get chatting. Coastal areas often have thriving communities with tight-knit connections (yes, there are still places where neighbours still know each other by name).

That slower pace of life and more time outside of four walls are great for building social connections. Community ties are a benefit worth considering; having a fulfilling social network can actually extend your lifespan.

 3. Cost of living and property prices

You might think premium living comes at a premium price. That’s not always the case, especially when weighing up coastal towns against inner-city suburbs.

Devon and Cornwall are two coastal regions where you can still find cheaper property prices.  But, honestly, there are dozens of affordable seaside towns in the UK, like Grimsby and Weymouth. Financial viability through new homes has really levelled the playing field. Modern coastal living is suitable for anyone seeking a quieter lifestyle, from retirees to families with young children.

 4. Access to outdoor activities and nature

One of the biggest benefits of living near the coast is having nature on your doorstep. Will you take up surfing? Enjoy blustery walks along the sands with your dog each morning? Or spot rare migrating birds while fishing? Coastal living opens up doors. Whether it’s sailing or swimming, there are suddenly hundreds of different ways to spend your downtime. It feels hugely liberating compared to urban living.

With more motivation to get outdoors and better activity choices, it is a no-brainer. Your physical health and recreational satisfaction will soar living by a beach.

Relocating to the seaside has been considered a positive (and therapeutic) decision for centuries. Trust the process, and take the leap.
