Snagging The Super Specific Car of Your Dreams

Having a car is so practical; you can go where you want when you want with no waiting around for unreliable public transport or lifts from loved ones. But a car is so much more than a way to get from A to B, just like our homes, our clothes, even our pets- cars can be a way to showcase our personality and are a bit of a status symbol. As well as being practical and nice to drive, we also want our car to look good so that we can feel proud driving it. If you have something really specific in mind, however, it can be much more difficult getting hold of one- there might not even be one for sale in the country where you live. But there are ways of snagging yourself a rare or specific car if you have something particular in mind. Here are a few things to consider.

Join a Forum

You might not be able to find the car you want through the usual channels, however, if you join car forums and scour threads about the type, model or age of car you’re after you might get lucky and find a collector or just someone who owns the car you want and is considering selling. Keep an eye out as things change all the time, and something might well come up.

Shipping From Abroad

If you’re unable to find the car that you want in the country where you live, your only option would be to have it imported from abroad. While this seems like a hassle, it’s a good choice if you go about things in the right way. First of all, when you’re not seeing a car in person you will want to see lots of pictures of it. Ask the seller to send photos of different parts, video clips and really go into detail about any issues or snags that you need to know about. That way, you can make an informed decision if the car is for you. Next, you will need to find shipping and vehicle delivery companies. Have it shipped to your country, and then a car delivery company can bring it to your address for you. This is useful as you will need to have the car taxed, insured and MOT’d before you can drive it, which will be difficult to do from right off the boat.

Think About Modifications

If you are having a car shipped from abroad, one thing to bear in mind is that any modifications you’ve made might not necessarily be legal where you live. You will need to look into this, and have things put right if they’re not. Another option would be if you have a specific idea of the kind of car you want would be to modify it yourself. This could be anything from the mechanics to the appearance- new interior, paint job and wheels, for example, would completely customize it. Just be aware that modifying the performance of a car can make it harder to sell and will probably cost you more on insurance.
