Off Road, Road Trip? Be Prepared With These Top Tips

Going off road can be great fun. Whether you’re pushing your 4×4 up and down green hills or taking a drive through dirt roads out in the sticks you can have a great time with family and friends. However, for those longer trips in the car you may want to pay a little more consideration to your trip. Especially if you’re going right out into the back of beyond. You don’t want to be caught short in a place where help isn’t too close. Here are some points to think about before you set off on your trip.

Get Your Car Fixed Up

You may be an amateur mechanic but if you’re going into the back of beyond its useful to know that your car is in the best possible shape. Take it where people really know the vehicle in question, for example if you owned a Subaru outback you’d take it to the Best subaru repair shop you can find. Even if your car is in good shape, it’s good to know there’s nothing wrong for you ultimate peace of mind. There’s nothing worse than your battery failing or or brake discs wearing when you’re out in the middle of nowhere. Get it checked over first so you can properly enjoy the entirety of your trip.

Check The Weather

It doesn’t matter where you’re going, bad weather can always mess up a well planned off road trip. Heavy rain makes things tough. You won’t be able to offroad like you’d usually be able to. The same applies to snow. If you’re going somewhere where there are large rivers or lakes, there could be flash flooding. Always make sure you check the long term weather report and double check it as it gets nearer. Same for temperature. If it’s going to be particularly cold, you’ll do well to take good quality tents and sleeping bags. You might even need a small heater depending on the temperature. However, you’d only know by being prepared and checking so make sure that you do. If you’re set on going somewhere with bad weather make sure that you tell people where you’re going…if something goes wrong they’ll be able to get help.

Take Some Quality Parts and Tools

If the car is old, and you’re running it pretty hard offroad things might go wrong on the fly, requiring you to have to fix things where you are. To do this effectively, you need to have the parts and tools. You know what your car needs. The basics, like a spare tire and bulbs, to those specialist tools certain cars need like a digital torque wrench or special adaptors for your spark plugs. When you’re throwing your car around you’ll never know what’s needed to keep it going, this is even more important if you’re going on an extended trip. Wiper blades are good to keep handy too. Make sure you take some oil and other key fluids. A tire inflation machine is always a good bet as is a jump start pack if you’re planning on using the battery a lot.
