Merchanting Guide: Buying and Selling Items in Old School RuneScape

In Old School RuneScape, merchanting is the process of buying and selling items to make a profit. Many different strategies can be used to make a profit while merchanting, but the most important part is to buy low and sell high. This guide will teach you the basics of merchanting, as well as some more advanced techniques that can help you make a lot of money. Let’s get started!

The Currencies in RuneScape

There are two main types of currency in Old School RuneScape: coins and items. Coins are the most basic form of currency and can be used to buy almost anything in the game. Items, on the other hand, can only be used to purchase certain things, such as equipment and materials. To merchant successfully, you will need to understand the value of both coins and items. Additionally, what you need to consider while buying OSRS Gold is the rate at which the price is changing in the real-world market. For example, the price of items in RuneScape may be different than the price of those same items on an external website like eBay.

The Difference Between Buying and Selling

There are two main types of transactions that you can make while merchanting: buying and selling. When you buy something, you are paying a certain amount of money or currency for it. For example, if you bought a sword for 100 coins, you would be said to have “bought the sword for 100 coins.” On the other hand, when you sell something, you are receiving a certain amount of money or currency for it. So, if you sold that same sword for 200 coins, you would be said to have “sold the sword for 200 coins.” The key difference between these two types of transactions is that you want to make sure you always sell items for more than you paid for them. This “mark-up” is how you will make a profit while merchanting.

The Grand Exchange

The Grand Exchange is a building located in the central area of Old School RuneScape. It is here that you will do most of your merchanting, as it is the only place where you can buy and sell items directly with other players. To use the Grand Exchange, you must first have a minimum of 1,000 coins in your inventory or bank. Once you have this, simply walk into the building and speak to one of the NPCs inside. They will offer to help you get started with the basics of using the Exchange.

  • The first thing you need to do is set up a buying limit for an item. To do this, select the “Buy” option, then search for the item you want to buy. Once you’ve found it, set the quantity to the amount you want to buy and click “Confirm.” This will put your order in the system and other players will begin selling their items to you at or below your buying limit.
  • To sell items, the process is similar. Select the “Sell” option, then search for the item you want to sell. Once you’ve found it, set the quantity to the amount you want to sell and click “Confirm.” Your item will be put up for sale at or above your selling price and other players will begin buying it from you.
  • It’s important to note that you can only have a maximum of 10 active buy or sell orders at any given time. This means that you need to be strategic about which items you want to merchant, as you won’t be able to do it for everything.

The Value of Coins

The value of coins varies greatly depending on the server that you are playing on. In general, however, there are three different levels of coin value: high, medium, and low. High-value servers have a lot of wealth and therefore their currencies are worth more. Medium-value servers have an average amount of wealth, so their currencies are worthless. Low-value servers have very little wealth, so their currencies are worth even less. You want to merchant on a high-value server to make the most profit. The value of coins also fluctuates based on the real-world economy. For example, if there is a recession going on, the value of coins will go down because people have less money to spend.

Merchanting is a great way to make money in Old School RuneScape. It can be a little daunting at first, but if you take the time to learn the ropes and understand the market, you’ll be raking in the profits in no time!
