Keeping Your Parked Car Safe

Do you ever consider the worth of your car? When it’s new, you know how much you paid for it, and you might have to put its value into your insurance details once a year, but do you ever really think about its monetary value, and how much it could be worth to you?

Most of us don’t. We tend not to think of any of our possessions in terms of their value until it comes time to sell when it’s often too late. Whether you think about it or not, your car might be one of the most valuable things that you own, maybe only beaten by your house. If you ever needed cash quickly, selling your car could be the answer. And that’s just an empty car. If you are in the habit of leaving expensive goods like your wallet or mobile phone inside, you are filling a valuable item with more value. In this sense, it’s easy to see why so many cars are stolen.

If you don’t think about the value of your car, you might not be keeping it safe either. We’re often guilty of taking them for granted when they become part of our everyday lives. Parking them in convenient locations and not making the most of the latest security features. You might even have left it unlocked in your drive once or twice. Image for a second how you’d feel if you went back to your car and it wasn’t there? Or your windows were broken and your valuables missing? Now, let’s take a look at some of the ways that you can keep your parked car safe.

Double Check the Doors are Locked

It sounds silly, but so many of us have inadvertently left our cars unlocked. Sometimes when you’ve pressed the button but a passenger hasn’t fully shut their door, and no one has noticed. Double check your doors before you leave your car.

Park in Safe Locations

Before you park up and leave your vehicle, ask yourself if the location is safe. If it’s somewhere you’ve never been before, take a look around and ask yourself if you feel safe. Stick to car parks and official parking zones where possible.

Consider Tinted Windows

If you want to keep your car safe, wherever it is parked, Auto Tinting can be a fantastic option. Tinted windows mean that even if you do leave valuables in your vehicle, no one can see them. They also have the added benefits of giving you some privacy, keeping your car cool and protecting your skin from harmful rays.

Use Your Garage

Most people with a garage use them for storage or a workspace. It’s thought that only around 20% keep their cars locked away in a garage overnight even though most garage owners tell their insurance companies that they do.

Yes, it’s a bit of a hassle putting it in and getting it out again every day, and you might need to give your garage a good tidy, so it’s fit for use. But, it’s undoubtedly worth it if it keeps your vehicle safe.

If you don’t have a garage and your car is parked on a drive or outside your home at night consider adding cameras and motion activated lights to your house to give your vehicle extra protection.
