How to create a luxury bachelor pad

There are lots of benefits of being single that all the romantic comedies in the world would like to hide from you. You have your own space, complete freedom to do what you want when you want and you never have to answer to anyone, at least as far as your social life is concerned. But we have to admit, single men are typically not the best at keeping a good home. So, we’re here to offer some top tips on transforming your single man cave into a luxury bachelor pad.

What exactly is a bachelor pad?

You can’t design the perfect bachelor pad if you don’t know what it is you’re designing. A bachelor pad is, essentially, the abode of a single gentleman that is elevated above the messy flats strewn with beer bottles that you might expect of a singleton. A bachelor pad is a sophisticated and modern abode that stands as a reflection of its inhabitant. And building your home into a bachelor pad could mean making some pretty severe renovations. So, let’s take it step-by-step.

Step 1 – Decide on your style

Without a foundation to work from for your bachelor pad, you are liable to lapse into design chaos. So decide on a distinct style before spending a penny. Do you want a minimalist open space or a cosy area filled with furniture? Are you into modern gadgets or do you desire more of a vintage vibe? Settle on an overall style and everything else should fall into place around it.

Step 2 – Try and go bespoke

It can, of course, be tempting to simply head to IKEA and pick out a few pieces but then your bachelor pad is just going to look like thousands of other bachelor pads. Not only are IKEA pieces notoriously fiddly to put together and while affordable, won’t give you the style you’re looking for unless you really like Swedish minimalism. Look towards individual creators and designers to really give your bachelor pad a unique flair.

Step 3 – Have the right lighting

Lighting is often something it can be easy to overlook and is often the last piece of the puzzle. But you should really be thinking about it from the very beginning. You want to avoid the space being too dark but you don’t want it to be too washed out either. Go for ambience over anything too bold and opt for lighting that works as much as decoration as lighting. Simple pendant lighting, for example, is always going to work, regardless of the situation.

Step 4 – Add texture

The final touch is where you can really make your personality stand out. Add plants for a little greenery and hang up artwork that reflects your personality. But don’t go too far, as clutter is the last thing you want. Above all else, focus on pieces that really reflect the kind of home you want to live in and the kind of person you want to be.
