Accessory Tips for the Modern Man

Accessories for men are difficult to come by. Traditionally, it’s been women that are far more likely to adorn themselves with different necklaces, earrings and other small accessories to complement their outfit. These days, it’s becoming a bit more common for men to also wear accessories as part of their regular outfits. But where do you start? What kind of accessories should you consider and what would be considered acceptable for the modern man?

Necktie and tie clip

A necktie is something that a lot of men wear to accompany their dress shirts. It adds a bit of colour to the outfit and also allows for some unique personalisation. However, it’s also a good idea to include a small tie clip. The functional purpose for a tie clip is to anchor your necktie to your shirt. This makes it less prone to swinging around. However, they come in various different sizes, metals and also designs. This makes it surprisingly customisable and can add a bit of visual interest to your outfit. You can try to match the design or metal to other jewellery you’re wearing such as rings, cufflinks or even your belt.

Your watch

A watch is a staple accessory that all modern men should wear. While it’s fairly common for men to wear smartwatches such as the Apple Watch, you can also go for a more traditional option such as a Rolex watch. Classic timepieces are a great addition to any outfit, but you generally want to try and keep the metals on your outfit consistent. For example, you don’t want to wear a mix of silver and gold if you can avoid it. Instead, try to keep all of the metals consistent so that your outfit appears more uniform.

Your hat

A hat is a seasonal accessory that is more common in the colder months. If you’re going for a casual look, then it’s common to wear a beanie or a cap. However, if you want a smarter look, then you may want to consider something like a trilby, a panama or even a fedora. These hats are a lot more traditional and go well with a suit and tie. Since you want the hat to fit perfectly, we highly recommend that you go to a specialised store to buy your hats to ensure they sit nicely on your head. They shouldn’t feel too tight and they should match the colour and feel of your overall outfit.

Your glasses

Lastly, we can’t ignore the effect that glasses have on your outfit. Many people consider glasses as a necessity so they typically don’t own more than one or two pairs. However, these days, there are so many different frame designs that you can easily consider them a fashion accessory. Consider looking online for different frame designs or speak to your optometrist to learn more about different frames. Picking the right pair of glasses will heavily depend on the shape and size of your face.
