FactoryTwoFour Writing Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in writing for FactoryTwoFour. We are humbled that you wish to contribute to our community. We know you write quality content, that is why we chose you, but below are some guidelines to keep in mind to minimize edits and revisions.

FactoryTwoFour is where modern gentlemen are made. We don’t believe you need a $1,200 blazer or vintage Italian espresso machine in your ultra-modern loft to be a good person. What we do believe is that the modern man is a different kind of man than he was in the past. Objects and acquisitions don’t define him, taste and effort do. Here at FactoryTwoFour, we bring you those things and experiences that take taste and effort. We don’t believe in a quick way out, and hopefully neither do you.

Thank you for joining us at the Factory, and engaging in the Original Lifestyle.

The FactoryTwoFour Voice

When writing for FactoryTwoFour, you must have a certain “voice” that matches with our readers. Now, we’ve already read your writing and liked it, so you’re already pretty much there. Just always keep in mind who our audience is, and you’ll be all set. The average reader of FactoryTwoFour is between 25 and 34 years old, lives in an urban area, makes over $75,000 a year, and is more interested in quality and style than quick fixes and this year’s fashion.

We do not make any presumption as to the sexual preferences of our readers. It’s none of our business and we’ve got more than enough to worry about in our own bedrooms to be concerned with anyone else’s. As such, stay away from describing anything as “gay,” or speaking in terms of girlfriends or “sexy ladies.” Vagueness is your friend here (“significant other,” or “hot date”), and allows the maximum number of people to insert themselves as the main character of your story. And for any writer worth their salt, that should be the primary goal.

We find the stories that most interest our readers fall into the following categories: Food & Wine, Style, Autos, Travel, and interesting product Reviews. You have been chosen to join us because you likely already have strength in one or more of these areas. When writing for us, however, please remember to make your piece “story driven.” Straightforward reviews and comments are not our favorite. Write a story, a narrative, which draws the reader in. This is what makes us different and we will push you toward this goal without fail. A review can be negative as well, so do not be afraid to express your opinion, but please have the content to back it up.

Your editor can help guide your stories, provide helpful tips, put you in touch with PR contacts (free swag!) and edit your stories. Please don’t hesitate to ask your editor a question, no matter how simple. That is what we are here for, to help each other improve as writers and make FactoryTwoFour the best it can be. Your editor will also strictly enforce the following posting rules:

Posting Rules

  • Story length should always be between 300 and 1200 words in length. Any longer than that and we will likely split it up into two parts. Any shorter and we become Tumblr.
  • Writing about a product, location visited, or event you attended? Unique photography is a key element to providing not only unique content, but a unique look to FactoryTwoFour.
  • FactoryTwoFour or F24, never any spaces or alterations to this.
  • Our tagline is “the original lifestyle,” and our audience is “the modern gentleman”
  • You will be expected to stick to a posting schedule. You and your editor can work out your individual schedule.
  • Stories will only be submitted to WordPress. The best way to do this is to write in Word (automatic backup) and paste into the HTML input of the WordPress terminal. Your editor can walk you through this.
  • Notify your editor when a post is drafted and waiting in WordPress for review.
  • Choose the best term to describe your story’s subject (what the audience might search for) and input that into the SEO field under your story. Create a title and meta description that include that name and refine your story until the SEO clears as green or good.
  • Choose and insert a Featured Image of at least 1200×500. It is imperative that you only use original photography with your story. If you are unclear on this or need access to stock imagery, please discuss with your editor.
  • If you need imagery for your article, we prefer the use of Pexels.com. This stock photo website consistently matches the quality and look we strive to maintain on F24. If you cannot find the right photo to use here, please reach out to your editor for options.
